Environmental Planning

WND prides itself on being aware of, and understanding new and evolving environmental legislation and policies, which may require greater responsiveness to individual contexts and site conditions to ensure that natural systems and public health are protected while other community needs are met.

On many occasions WND has worked with the Province of Ontario, municipalities and specialist consultants to respond to a broad range of environmental concerns, providing viable solutions for our clients.

Representative environmental planning assignments include:

The Halton Landfill Environmental Assessment, Regional Municipality of Halton

Halton Landfill

This was the first major landfill site selection project to be designated under the Environmental Assessment Act. The assessment involved an examination of alternative ways of dealing with waste to determine whether a new landfill site was necessary as part of the water management system of the Regional Municipality of Halton (Ontario). The assessment also included an examination of alternative landfill siting options through a three-step screening process along with an extensive consultation process with the public and government agencies.

WND, in association with a team of consultants, the Town of Halton Hills, Ontario and the Credit Valley Conservation Authority prepared a three stage subwatershed study for Subwatershed 11 (Silver Creek) of the Credit River. Our role encompassed a number of land use planning matters, including the provision of recommended policy amendments to relevant land use planning documents to implement the recommendations of the study.
