WND provides expertise in the preparation of long-range policy, applying extensive experience and resources to provide effective and independent advice to municipalities, whether it be for the preparation of new policy plans or for reviews of existing documents. Our document preparation process includes an effective consultative approach to ensure consensus building among the wide variety of stakeholders, providing an appropriate long-range vision for the future development of the municipality.
WND's systematic approach to long-range planning, assesses and integrates the broad diversity of factors that affect the determination of the long-range strategy for a particular municipality. WND's extensive experience in the planning and development of various land uses, along with its familiarity with the evolving policy framework within which these documents are established, enable us to translate key issues into clearly understood and concise Official Plan policy. Depending on the complexity of the assignment, WND may work individually or as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Representative assignments include:
The Taunton Secondary Plan involved the establishment of a comprehensive land use plan for mixed-use nodes along Taunton Road in the Town of Whitby, Ontario, providing a detailed policy framework for each block within the planning area. The integrated study process included the parallel development of urban design guidelines along with hands-on design workshops to obtain a clear community vision for the area.
WND was retained by the Town of Grimsby, Ontario to prepare a secondary plan for the Civic Neighbourhood comprising a study area of approximately 144 hectares (355 acres). This planning exercise comprised a four phase study, including the preparation of a detailed background information report, the development of policy options and a preferred neighbourhood plan and culminated with the preparation and adoption of the secondary plan by the municipality.
WND was retained by area landowners to prepare the Rymal Road Secondary Plan in the former Township of Glanbrook, Ontario for an area encompassing approximately 190 hectares (470 acres). The Rymal Road Secondary Planning Area has been planned as a major community with a mix of residential (3000 dwelling units), retail and service commercial uses. Upon completion the community will house more than 7000 residents.
